About Abby

Leadership that Listens.  Experience that Matters.

Vote for Abby Buckerfield - Parent.  Educator.  Advocate.
Working together to support students, staff, and a growing Delaware.

I’m Abby Buckerfield, and I’m running for the Delaware City Schools Board of Education because I believe every child in Delaware deserves a public education that is student-centered, well-supported, and forward-looking—with great teachers, safe environments, strong community partnerships, and clear, transparent communication.

As an experienced educator, I’ve spent over 28 years working in schools—supporting students, mentoring colleagues, and helping shape curriculum at both the district and state level. I helped authored Ohio’s Extended Content Standards and continue to serve on the Fairness and Content Committee for Ohio's Alternate Assessment for Students with the Most Significant Cognitive Disabilities. I’ve seen how strong public schools can transform lives, and I understand what students, families, and staff need to succeed—because I’ve lived it every day.

As a parent and community member, I’m deeply invested in the future of Delaware City Schools. I’ve walked the halls during parent-teacher conferences, helped with homework at the kitchen table, and cheered from the bleachers and auditorium seats at concerts, games, and plays. I know what it means to trust our public schools with our children—and what it takes to earn and sustain that trust.

As an advocate for public education, I believe school board members should reflect the values of the communities they serve. That means listening first, leading with compassion, and keeping students and staff at the center of every decision. It also means speaking up when it matters—at the local and state level. Throughout the 2025 state budget process, I reached out to Senator Brenner, Representative Lear, and Governor DeWine, submitting testimony to both House and Senate committees to tell the story of Delaware City Schools and advocate for fair, full, and sustainable school funding.

Ongoing Advocacy & Collaboration - We are a strong and growing city—and our schools deserve leadership that plans ahead, governs responsibly, and puts students first. My participation in the City of Delaware’s Citizens Academy deepened my understanding of how city government works and strengthened my relationships with city leaders—insight that’s essential as we plan for continued residential and commercial growth. I’m ready to serve with integrity, experience, and a clear vision for our district’s future.

I’m a neighbor, an educator, and a parent who’s ready to roll up my sleeves and serve.

Together, we can move Delaware City Schools forward—with strong support for teachers, safe and welcoming learning environments, and open, honest leadership that puts students first.

School Board School

I believe in being a well-informed, effective, and responsible board member from day one.  In order to prepare for this role, I completed School Board School as a Member of Class 6,  August 2024 - May 2025.

Through School Board School,

I gained meaningful insight into the governance, policy, budgeting, and legal responsibilities that come with effective school board leadership.

To make informed, student-centered decisions, I believe board members must come prepared to listen, lead, and learn. That’s why I began with school board training—so I could collaborate effectively, support our schools, and serve with transparency and accountability from day one.
